For most Indian brides, a veil has been a timeless symbol of grace and elegance. The right veil can add a look of mystique and allure to your ensemble and is as iconic a hair accessory as they come. Right from the time of Ancient Rome to New York Fashion Week, veils are the quintessential bridal accessory that have evolved over time but continue to exude a dramatic elegance that you too can add to your wedding affair.
Take cues from these Indian brides who aced the bridal veil, each in their own way:
Personalised Embroideries
Many Indian brides are choosing to inscribe personal memories onto their veils for posterity. For her intimate wedding ceremony at her home in Mumbai, Alia chose to wear a heavily embroidered ivory sari by ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, which had a stunning embroidered tissue veil. What made the ensemble special was the wedding date, “The fourteenth of April 2022,” embroidered on the white veil. Patralekhaa too, on her wedding with actor Rajkumar Rao in 2021, wore an embroidered veil with a Bengali verse “Amar poran bhora bhalobasha aami tomay shomorpon korilam“.
Elaborate Trains
It wouldn’t be a grand wedding if the bride wasn’t a tad dramatic with her ensemble. Take a cue from Shibani Dandekar, who broke the mould with her red Jade by Monica and Karishma custom-designed mermaid lehenga that could have easily been mistaken for a gown, for her wedding with Farhan Akhtar. What’s more, she wore a red tulle headdress that looked stunning as she walked the aisle. Her look reminded us of Priyanka Chopra, who opted for a 75-foot long bridal veil train that cascaded long after she had walked the aisle.
A Veil That is, um, Not a Veil?
Trust Rhea Kapoor to give us bridal veil trends that will stick around for a long time. For her intimate at-home wedding ceremony with Karan Boolani, she opted for an ivory Anamika Khanna-saree.However, she swapped the dupatta for a vintage pearl veil by Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas that was meticulously beaded and flowed down her open hair. For brides looking to go the road less taken, opt for a bold headpiece and couple it with an intricate veil that can be customised in length according to your look.
